Where's the Snow??

Jayden has been waiting for it to snow. He's been waiting to make a snowman, and has been dying to wear his rainboots out in the cold! It finally rained here, so Jamie jumped on the chance to take the boys (and me) to Big Bear to play in the snow! He came home early from work to head up the mountain. He checked online and the weather statement said snow at 4000 feet. We bundled up, and headed out.
Jayden was so excited!
Brady was excited, too! He wasn't sure WHY he was excited,
but if big brother is excited, he is too!
We drove, and drove, and drove. No snow. We were beginning to doubt our whole trip. The weather man was wrong, and there was no snow in sight. I mentioned to Jamie that maybe we should just try a different day, and he said, NO! He said he was going to find snow for Jayden, even if he had to drive to the top of the mountain! Haha! He was determined.
We found this place (at 6000 ft) where kids were tubing. Now, if you know me, I am not going to let our boys go tubing. Taking sleds was a stretch! I agreed to pull them around on the sleds, but climbing up mountains to spin completely out of control is not for me, or our boys. :)
Our funny story begins...

I didn't want to stop at this hill. Jamie insisted. We didn't have much of a choice, there wasn't a place to pull off and park to play in the very little snow that existed. We started to walk in and the man that worked there said they were closing in 45 minutes. He then stated that it is $12 per person, per hour to tube and Jayden was taller than the height requirement, so it was $36 total. BAHAHA! WHAT? He wanted ME to PAY to tube? NOT happening! Jamie asked since they were closing, if we could get a discount, he said no. So, Jamie said we would keep looking. No one could pay me $36 to get back on a tube! Glad it all worked out like it did!
Jayden wanted to throw a snowball at Mommy SO badly!
I'm glad he has bad aim. :)
So...we ended up pulling in to the next place we saw. It was a ski resort and there weren't very many people, but the ones there were riding up and skiing down, not an ideal place to take our boys to "sled." (AKA be pulled around on a sled) There was, however, some trees in the middle of a parking lot and the area where they were shading still has a little bit of snow! It was not what Jamie had planned or wanted, but I finally convinced him that the boys didn't need 12 feet of snow, they would be happy with just being "in" it! :) We parked the car, and Jayden was one happy boy!
Making handprints!
The entire ride up the mountain Jayden was talking about snow, and every time Jayden would say, "snow," Brady would say, "snowman!" As soon as we got out of the car, Daddy built his little boy a snowman. It was about 6 inches tall, and was perfect for Brady.
Let the snowball fights begin!
Yay! Time to go "sledding!"
Brady decided to give it a try!
He was not a fan, and wanted out ASAP!
Brady is very much a routine little boy. He doesn't like things to be different, and for sure didn't like to be cold! As soon as he climbed out of the sled and realized the snow was so cold, he was upset!
This little boy was having a blast!
Back to making snowballs...
The boys loved (what they thought) was a snowy mountain!
It was actually just a big pile of dirt that still had snow on it.
There was a lot of snow over across the parking lot, but that is where you paid to ski.
Brady was happy in Daddy's arms!
Jayden wanted to pull Brady, and we all know THAT wasn't going to happen!
Jayden thought it was so funny to throw snowballs at me!
(I wonder who put him up to that!?! I think I'm outnumbered. :))
So fun! You can see in this picture how little snow we had to play in,
BUT...it was SNOW!
So fun to imagine how big this "mountain" is in their little eyes.
Jayden talked about it forever afterwards!
We had a fun afternoon!
Daddy was trying to hit me with a snowball, too!
Brady thought it was hilarious that I was running away.
I'm sure we looked quite funny, playing in a small patch of snow, under the shady trees, in the middle of the parking lot, but it is memories like this that will last a lifetime.
I love spending time with my family. So blessed!

  1. Too bad you couldn't come and join David D sledding down our backyard hill this past Monday pm! He had fun but would have enjoyed a playmate like Jayden and Brady. Fun family time for sure but Krista you are outnumbered! Watch out for those snowballs!!
